It is high time that I registered my many kudos for Rachel’s most recent accomplishments; not the least of which is The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, the sequel of the hit movie of the same name. Those pants haven’t been the only thing traveling, Rachel has been quite busy herself. She was in Toronto starring in P2, then off to California to shoot Charlie Wilson’s War and eventually Star Trek, but not before she traveled to Louisiana to where she was in the horror film, For Sale by Owner, and then she flew off to Old Town, Prague, Czech Republic for parts of the film G. I. Joe. Of course there are all those European/North American publicity stops when you are in so many movies, as well. Can you say, “living out of a suitcase?”
While it is a lot of work, it is wonderful to be living out your dreams, and I am so thrilled for her. Congratulations, Rach, on all you are doing in your career and in your life. (She has also become engaged to Scott Stuber!)
Rachel has been having a lot of fun with embodying new and different looks for her movies of late. In Star Trek, Rachel plays an Orion cadet at Starfleet Academy, complete with green skin! (You may recall that Rachel has worked with Star Trek director J.J. Abrams before. She was on the last season of his show Alias. The connection is not lost on Nichols who has been reported as saying, “J.J.’s one of the most generous people I’ve ever met … He’s very, very loyal.” Clearly, that’s true.)
As a redhead in G. I . Joe, Rachel’s character Scarlett is a lean mean fighting machine! Out-gunning even the guys, Shana “Scarlett” O’Hara is a force to be reckoned with in Stephen Sommers‘ live-action adaptation. Ranked Master Sergeant, her weapon of choice is the crossbow and her specialty is counter intelligence. She may be tough on the outside, but she is vulnerable on the inside and has some deep seeded personal issues to work through. “Scarlett” will be the first female character in the GI Joe action figure line! (I’ve always said Rachel was a real doll!)
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 opens in theaters this month! Of course, Nichols wasn’t in the first “Sisterhood” movie, but in part 2 she plays a acting major friend of America Ferrera’s from Yale named Julia. While performing in a production at school of a “period piece”, Julia is a bit full of herself. Despite being the newcomer, Nichols had a great time on the set. Although America is younger, Rachel has said that she’s wise for her age and “a real gem.” I would say the same about Miss Nichols, personally.
For Sale By Owner puts Rachel back in the horror genre of her previous films, The Woods, The Amityville Horror and P2, her largest role to date. She plays Anna Farrier who gets involved with a place “for sale by owner”...um, I think it’s haunted! And for gosh sakes, Don’t Go Down the Basement!
Keep up the great work, Rachel!
