Two ways to play: Crystal Level and Silver Level.
Crystal Level Actors
Long story, short: “Crystal Level” actors get their work critiqued in class.
Each day, everyone gets the same set of sides, (so Crystal chooses character’s who could be played by any gender, age and race) which is cool, because then everything Crystal speaks about has to do with YOUR sides. You never have to sit around and hear her discuss other material with your classmates. Every moment is about YOU! Plus, you get to see how other people interpreted the material…as if you were peaking into the casting office and seeing what they see - very insightful!
One-by-one, when you arrive for class, Crystal will put you on tape doing the day’s audition material.
Everyone will come together to watch Crystal describe the steps to her method. As mentioned, everyone gets the same sides…this way you are never watching/listening to Crystal talk to other actors about some other scene…everything she says will pertain to YOU and the audition material that you are doing. Crystal's breakdown, explanation, script analysis, and watching the other actor’s tapes as well as your own, will drive the method home no matter your learning style. (more below)
3 ways to play Auditioning by Heart!
1) The “Crystal Level” Actor… is put on tape by Crystal, and the Critique is given by her in front of the class, so that your work can be used as a lesson to help the rest of the group. (There are only 12 critiqued spots available)
2) A “Silver Level” Actor… is put on tape by a T.A. and then joins the “Crystal Level” actors. Taking class at this level promotes the important skill of knowing how to evaluate yourself. (There are only 10 Silver Level spots available). Click to learn more.
3) A Virtual Participant… joins us remotely from any time zone! Students are granted access to a private Facebook group where they are have secure access to all materials needed to prepare for class. (Homework template, Sides etc.) On the day of class you can join to watch the lecture and breakdown of the material LIVE or log in later at your convenience, to self critique your auditions.
As a “Crystal Level” actor in Auditioning by Heart, you will have your work played back and critiqued in front of the class by Crystal.
Crystal will use your audition to demonstrate the day’s lesson, so that all actors can visualize what choices work well and which do not. The “Silver Level” actors will also benefit from watching Crystal critique your audition, so that they can discover how to apply the day’s lessons and evaluate their own audition tape, because they are also doing the same scene.
